SEG EVOLVE Program prepares next generation E&P professionals to embrace digital technologies for project workflows
EVOLVE offers a direct experience in conducting multi-discipline subsurface integration projects using actual seismic, geological and wellbore data.
Tulsa, OK 24 August 2017 – The Society of Exploration Geophysicists’ (SEG) EVOLVE program is proving to be a transformational learning experience across exploration and production asset teams for students and early career professionals. Part of a strategic collaboration between Halliburton and the SEG Foundation since 2014, this program continues to offer a unique opportunity to create innovative geoscience, petrophysical and reservoir engineering learning projects in an interactive, non-competitive team environment that fosters global participation.
“Since the program began, participants have been tackling real problems and datasets utilizing iEnergy® cloud for virtual, real-time collaboration between scientists and engineers thus enabling multi-disciplinary teams to create and share a single, subsurface view across the E&P lifecycle. The approach offered through EVOLVE is fundamentally changing the way we learn how to find and recover hydrocarbons,” says Chandra Yeleshwarapu, Sr. Director, R&D, Cloud, and Global Services for Halliburton Landmark.
Specifically, EVOLVE offers a direct experience in conducting multi-discipline subsurface integration projects using actual seismic, geological and wellbore data. Project management, teamwork skills and business values are honed within the context of exploration, reservoir appraisal, field development planning and production enhancement scenarios. These projects require analysis and application of geophysical/seismic, geological, petrophysical and petroleum engineering data and software technology, such as Halliburton’s DecisionSpace® Enterprise platform, to support integrated reservoir management, problem solving and decision making.
“EVOLVE is designed to deliver experiential training to young and emerging professionals from across the globe, by facilitating and supporting multidisciplinary teams in delivering fully integrated evaluations of scientific and engineering data. Graduates of this program will gain valuable experience aimed at equipping them to lead the future Oil & Gas Industry by delivering improved technical and business solutions in reduced time. EVOLVE’s ways-of-working will likely encourage changes in Industry software and data platforms targeted at improving their support of cross-disciplinary evaluations, which will contribute to our Industry’s future technical progress and success. Key enablers for the Program will include global delivery of training, data, software and support through the “cloud” infrastructure with guidance and mentoring drawn from a cross-section of recognized Professional Association Industry Experts,” says Rocco Detomo, Jr, SEG board member.
Jingjing Zong, a University of Houston student and EVOLVE team leader said, “My team members came from different backgrounds, including geology, geophysics, rock physics, so we looked for common ground.” Zong added, “That was invaluable experience and priceless preparation for work life.”
Elita de Abreu, another University of Houston student and EVOLVE team leader said, “EVOLVE gives students in the beginning of their career a unique opportunity to work in real data as well as real “problem” situations allowing them to develop team work, leadership, and their skills in a learning and cooperative environment.”
SEG will recruit 10-12 teams to participate in the 2017-2018 session. Ongoing resources will be available to participants of the EVOLVE program including an online repository for data, software, workflows, and training materials; an online forum that facilitates team discussions with peers; and technical mentoring. Teams will present their results at the 2018 SEG Annual Meeting in Anaheim in front of industry experts and their peers.
