SEAM - RPSEA Partnership

Acquisition and Processing Methods in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico

The Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) awarded $2.6 million to SEAM under the Ultra-Deepwater Program .

The Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) awarded a $2.6 million subcontract to SEG Advanced Modeling Corporation (SEAM) under the Ultra-Deepwater Program . The SEAM Phase I Participants are providing an additional $660,000 to fund the required cost share.

The project period is June 2009 through June 2013. (RPSEA Subcontract No. 07121-2001, under DOE Prime Contract No. DE-AC26-07NT42677.)

The goal of the project is to develop a suite of synthetic geophysical datasets that can be used by industry and the geophysical research community to improve reservoir imaging techniques. Synthetic data will be acquired over an existing SEAM numerical earth model.

Funding for the projects is provided through the "Ultra-Deepwater and Unconventional Natural Gas and Other Petroleum Resources Research and Development Program," authorized by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

This program—funded from lease bonuses and royalties paid by industry to produce oil and gas on federal lands—is specifically designed to increase supply and reduce costs to consumers while enhancing the global leadership position of the United States in energy technology through the development of domestic intellectual capital.

RPSEA is under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL)  to administer several elements of the program.
