About
18–20 February 2019
Dubai, UAE
As the oil and gas industry strives for efficiency and low cost of operations, drilling and well placement require integrated workflows that combine subsurface information such as geophysical, geological, and petrophysical data in order to optimize well placement. Subsurface geologic structures are provided by surface seismic data in terms of depth to target bed boundaries, fault locations, geologic dip, and reservoir quality in terms of porosity and lithology. This information is vital in the planning and preparation for drilling exploration, field development, and horizontal well placement. Fractures and lithology sensitive to drilling fluids’ chemistry also add more challenges to the drilling environment. Contingency plans are normally prepared in order to manage drilling surprises such as over-pressure and gas kick-in formations. New technology developments, such as deep electromagnetic imaging while drilling, seismic-guided drilling, pressure while drilling, and real-time geomechanics, play an important role in reducing risk and optimizing costs. Maximum Reservoir Contact (MRC) wells based on reservoir simulation platform have brought new ways of optimum well placement. Looking ahead of the drilling bit and analysis of rock cuttings are also important in well placement. Joint inversion of seismic, based on Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) and deep electromagnetic data, has proven valuable in well construction and geosteering of wells in real time. Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0), examples of which include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, has brought a new way of integrating and analyzing digital data and enables real-time decision making that is improving efficiency and optimizing cost. AI, IoT, and machine learning will be included in the technical program.

Tuesday, 19 February
Morning and afternoon sessions
Wednesday, 20 February
Morning and afternoon sessions
Who should attend?
Geoscientists, petroleum engineers, drilling engineers, geomechanics specialists, petrophysicists, well site geologists, data scientists, and other relevant disciplines from industry and academia.
Workshop format
The format of the workshop will feature presentations by invited key experts in their field who will share their experiences. The workshop will serve as a unique opportunity to have open and extended discussions among the participants.
6 sessions (3 days). Keynote speakers will present. The oral presentations are made up of 15 minute talks followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. After each session, a 30-minute discussion session is planned. The objective of this session is to allow participants to discuss in detail and learn from each other what has worked for them and debate the issues and challenges facing them during their daily workflows. Session chairs will also serve as discussion leaders during the 30 minutes.
